Ive been diabetic for 22 years and I'm 24. Its absolutely terrifying constantly that a lot of the side effects I havent gotten yet (eye damage, neuropathy, etc) are not if but when at this stage according to my doctor, I've had DKA twice and the concept of the future is just something I can't comprehend. I take as good care of myself as I can but...

DKA 7 times in two years…my most recent hospitalization was last week. I’ve been a diabetic for 15 years and keeping up with medication is just so tiring. I don’t see a bright future with my condition..I’m trying to find hope in my situation but I just don’t want to do it anymore

Thoughts of future complications are really scary to me too. I was diagnosed with Type 1 22 years ago as well. I don't have a lot of advice for dealing with the fear of complications, but I can definitely empathize with you there

I’ve only had DKA once and it was during my junior year of high school, I’ve been diabetic basically all my life. I was diagnosed when I was about 2, and im 20 now. The highest a1c I’ve had was a 13.5. The lowest I’ve ever had is an 8.6, and that’s not that great from what my family’s told me. So I get it

Ive been in dka 4 times in the 11 years ive been a diabetic(im 27 this year) my diabetes got so bad when i had gotten pregnant, that at like 25 weeks the hospital told my parents they might have to choose between me or my son. It was a definite wake up call. At that point my A1c was at like 13.7. Its been 3 years since then and ive got my a1c back down to roughly 7.8. I totallly know where youre coming from

i've been in dka at least once or twice every year since i've been diagnosed and while it is rough a lot of the time, i haven't gotten any long-term side effects yet either. what kinds of foods do you usually go for and how often do you exercise? that can have a lot to do with it.
What is your A1c at?
@Maelin 9.8 now due to not having insurance for 2 years and now trying to get everything back under control. It was in the low 7s though when some of the symptoms started while I was a teenager
