Struggling with ADHD in Adulthood

Hey everybody! I’m 22 yr-old female and was diagnosed with ADHD when I was 11. I’ve been really struggling with how ADHD presents itself in adulthood, with more responsibilities than childhood and all. I’ve never really found the right meds since my body doesn’t do well with stimulants (lots of side effects). How have you guys coped?

I don't know if it'll help but I found that I got older they invented a drink called bang with tea it helps me focus makes me highly motivated on work days keeps me going it will mess up your sleep rhythm though and you should make sure that you can take medication with it but it works wonders for me with ADHD I only wish they had it when I was in school but you should be able to sleep if you don't take it 8 hours before you sleep start the morning when you first get up great 8 hours before you may have trouble sleeping hope it helps

Have you tried a medication that is not a stimulant? I was diagnosed ADHD about 4 years ago and I am 38 years old. I have TMJ in my jaw and stimulants cause me to clinch my jaw resulting in headaches so I asked for a medicine that is not a stimulant. They gave me Bupropion( Wellbutrin) and I know it's not for everyone but it has changed my life.

Honestly, my biggest thing with ADHD in adulthood is motivation to actually do something. I have less motivation to clean or do housework because I know I'm going to get distracted by other things and the work time is doubled by it. It's always been a struggle for me in my adult life. I don't think I ever truly learned to cope with it, I just kinda expect it to be that way now...

Same! Motivation is a HUGE issue. I’m so exhausted by using any executive function I may force myself to have on work, so I have none left for anything else.

I found out recently that stimulants don't work well for me either. I keep a lot of lists, detailed schedule and mood tracking to remember everything and stay organized. I also clean everything immediately after I make a mess so I cant procrastinate picking it up.
