Late Scoliosis Diagnosis: Anyone Else?

Was anyone else diagnosed super late in life? I have definitely had scoliosis since I was young but it was only caught when I was 19. Looking back now I see why I have never been able to breathe when on my back or why it always seemed like I walked crooked. It’s hard not to feel angry at everyone that didn’t notice…

I was diagnosed at around 20, because of attending drama school, and one of my classmates kept telling me to relax my back. I grew up in a rural community and both my parents were welfare dependent from the year that I turned 12. In the course of 12 months the curve in my lumbar spine deteriorated from 32 to 46 degrees. I feel conflicted about this not being picked up younger, because a brace may have alleviate some of my current concerns proactively, but I would have been bullied profusely if I had had to wear one.

I slipped on the ice and my back hurt so much my doc thought I might have cracked a vertebrae so I got an X-ray. Turn out my spine is an S shape

It’s okay I was late too. I just went in for a normal check up and the dr happened to notice my curve. Meanwhile for years it was curving and no one noticed. Regardless of starting treatment and stopping I’m at the same degree of 34 from age 16 - 19.
