Late Diagnosis and Finding Community

As someone who received a late diagnosis partially because of being AFAB, I just wanted to say that it's nice to be a part of a group of people that have similar struggles to myself in ways that I thought were unique to me for years before my diagnosis. I've had some people in my life who would be understanding about how I am, but others would say that I was weird, mean, or not smart because of how I acted especially in social situations, so it's nice to know that what I was/am experiencing isn't just a me thing. I wanted to acknowledge this positive experience because it's nice to be able to read about and talk about these things instead of having to Google everything to try to piece everything together each time I make a mistake.

what is AFAB?

assigned female at birth. It's a term to include all people who were labeled as a girl at birth in conversations that there could be a shared experience because of the initial gender that a person is at birth. This was noted in my original post because gender is often a factor in whether someone receives a diagnosis due to past medical practices and understandings about what it means to be autistic especially before the 2010s.

AFAB and late dx too! It is pretty nice to finally be able to understand why people think we are different, and to realize it's not in a bad way. It explains so many things that used to frustrate me because I didnt understand why I was doing them or why I felt/thought/spoke/acted a certain way when others didn't.
