So I was recently diagnosed with Bipolar 2 disorder and I've been taking Lamictal since the end of July for it. I was curious of anyone else's experiences with it. I'm pretty sure it's working for me, but I still have manic episodes, so I didn't know if that was a thing or not while taking the meds.

I take that medicine. I too have bipolar 2. I have noticed improvement. There have been times where I have run out of my medicine and I noticed the difference big time. I do still have episodes not as bad but I do notice improvement in myself. I take the Lamictal along with a venlafaxine and together help to point but I do feel that my mood swings still get the best of me sometimes.

@Dezmari that's funny that you mention that because I also take venlafaxine 150 MG in the morning. My psychiatrist eventually wants to wean me off of it.

I was on lamictal for a few months. I stopped taking it because I broke out in hives one day. It was most likely an allergic reaction to something else, but out of an abundance of caution we decided it was best to stop taking it. I never really liked the way I felt on lamictal anyway, although at the time it was one of the most effective treatments I had tried. But it honestly made me feel like I had a lobotomy. My memory was awful and I was so sluggish and exhausted and I just felt like brain dead. I was also still fairly depressed. I’m on trazodone now and I have to say it’s probably saved my life. After god only knows how long of trying it’s the first time I finally feel normal- no ups and downs- and like myself again

@aries02 I never stop to think of or if The Lamictal only helps with the mood swings and not the depression. Because I do feel depressed a lot but my mood swings aren’t as bad

@Dezmari the way it was explained to me is that mood stabilizers don’t really help with the depression itself. They’re mostly supposed to prevent the episodes from coming on/ shorten the duration of episodes/ reduce their frequency. That’s why a lot of people w bipolar II who struggle mostly w sever depressive episodes also take an SSRI. My main issue is depression but I have horrible reactions to SSRIs and they actually tend to makes me more depressed and cause rapid mood cycling so I stay away from them.

I think it is great, been on it for about 7ish years. Done wonders for the depressive episodes. I have bipolar 1 and I went off lithium so I had to increase lamictal to 400mg. I prefer lamictal to lithium by far! Lamictal helps more of the depressive episodes though and lithium does manic. Risperdal helps my mania, personally. Def talk to your doctor if the mania is bothersome. They could increase or add if it is disruptive, just to help you balance. Meds help keep you more balanced but you can still have episodes, they’re usually just not as severe and that’s when they adjust meds usually. Hopefully you get to be where you need to, good luck!

I take lamictal for bipolar one and it's honestly saved me, I do still get bouts of slight mania but not near as bad as I did before I got on the medication, I'm still working on my dosing, so far I'm only on 200mg and it's doing its job for the most part but I think I may move up. It really has made a huge difference in my life.

@des00000 I'm on 100 MG currently. I'm glad that it's helped you so much. Hopefully it does with me, as well.

So I'm allergic to Lamictal. But I take other medications. I am bipolar 1. There are times when I get slightly manic. Which happens. But when I get way wayyyy tooooo up there up is when my team steps in and adjusts my meds a bit. I've been on meds constantly for 10 years. They will over the years get adjusted. And that's ok! Hugs
