I finally have my consult in June for a hysterectomy. I’ve only been begging for years, my dr finally approved it 🥰. With that being said I’ve seen a lot of people stating the hysterectomy doesn’t help with the horrible periods and feeling drained and flu like body aches for a week following my period. I know everyone is different but I would like to hear everyone’s personal experiences? Is a hysterectomy worth it?

I'm going to get a hysterectomy bc of my heart. Once they call me back about scheduling an appointment, then I'm going to write down my questions and go from there.

I noticed that a hysterectomy speeds up your menopause

I had my ovaries left (though I'm missing one now due to torsion), and I have noticed a small amount of hormone shift during when my period would have been, but there's no cramping and only a little pain cause I have a bit of endometriosis. Mostly my mood just fluctuates, and I crave more sugar than normal.

If it is a full hysterectomy you will not have periods. I do not know about the fatigue and body aches. You will go into instant menopause which has other uncomfortable symptoms of it’s own. If you can use the estrogen patch consider it because it helps so much. I could not and had night sweats every night for years. I am still hot most of the time. It took away my migraines that were hormonal. And the heavy periods because I had a blood mass in my uterus the size of a grape fruit, it was not cancer. I was 42 when I had mine.

I had a hysterectomy in October of 2020, and honestly, I have felt so much better. I don't notice any period of more pronounced fatigue or muscle aches that would correspond to a post cycle. My cycles were awful and lasted months at a time, so I was so happy to be rid of them. It was a huge relief.

One user mentioned that their mother had a hysterectomy due to endometriosis and it helped her a lot, although she experienced early menopause which affected her mental health. Another user had a hysterectomy in November and found it 100% worth it, as they no longer experience constant pain. However, individual experiences may vary, and it's essential to consult with your doctor about the potential benefits and risks of a hysterectomy for your specific situation.
