Hysterectomy for Endometriosis: What to Expect?

Has anyone had a hysterectomy to manage endo? I’m going in for one in 3 weeks and I don’t know what to expect as far as level of relief.

BlondeChicago, thank you for sharing that. It’s encouraging. With a full, do they take the ovaries? And if so, did you do hormone replacement therapy or let menopause happen?

I totally understand your stance Cindy33. I haven’t done it sooner because of the irreversibility of it. But I’m 43 and not having any kids so at this point, it makes sense for me. I’ve read that too that it doesn’t necessarily remove all the tissue and if ovaries are still pumping out hormones, those tissues could flare.

I had a FULL hysterectomy when I was 27 and it was the best thing I did for my endometriosis

I thought about it in the past and as far as I know, hysterectomy is not a guaranteed cure for endometriosis and the pain relief is better achieved if the surgery involves the removal of the ovaries. I still might want to have children so for now it's not an option for me.
