Experiencing severe side effects from hydroxychloroquine, need advice

I was a week into starting to take hydroxychloroquine 200mg a day but then I started to experience the worst joint and muscle pain, dizzy spells and eventually I had a constant ringing in my ear that hasn’t stopped and felt like my heart was beating out of it chest. I contacted my nephrologist who prescribed me it, she said that I didn’t have to continue to take it if i didn’t want to. Has anyone else experienced this at all ? I feel bad for not taking it but I’m too anxious to. :( I just take prednisone for now

I am taking that for my lupus too. Drs say can take few months for it start working over time should help and less side effects should happen once your body gets used to taking it. Stay strong positive. Be patient. Pray and keep smiling.

I’ve been on Hydroxychloroquine for 2 almost 3 years now. I haven’t had any side effects at all. It has helped with the joint pain tremendously but I’m still in mild pain. The only thing I’ve experienced is itchiness on my legs, my rheumatologist took me off for a month because she said might be an allergic reaction, and prescribed me Methotrexate. I was too scared to take it though and once I couldn’t stand the joint pain again I just went back to hydroxychloroquine. The itchiness is not too bad, I can manage it.
