Hearing Things: Am I Hallucinating?

Does anyone else think they’re hearing things? Like alarms or buzzing from the phone or fire alarms in the distance or things like that. I feel like every time I’m in a quiet environment, my brain invents all this chaos. Once I stop whatever I’m doing to hear it, I can tell it’s not there, but it’s enough to peak my anxiety for a second and it’s just stressful and odd. Then I start to freak out thinking I’m starting to hallucinate sounds…

I have tinnitus - it’s when you hearing buzzing/ringing sounds often or constantly. I didn’t actually realize I had tinnitus my whole life until very recently because I always thought that it was just hearing electronics ringing at a low pitch in the room around me - and I usually only hear it when the room is quiet enough. I ran some experiments where I blocked out all sound or spent time in rooms without electronics at all and discovered that it definitely was coming from ME not from any external source of sound despite what I had always thought. So I recommend looking into “tinnitus,” especially because I think it also has links to anxiety.

I have auditory illusions a lot and it’s so embarrassing when I ask others if they hear it and they don’t

That article is incredibly helpful. They’re called dysperceptions. I have em too. They’re totally harmless and this article explains why. Enjoy!

Yeah. It's extra weird bc I'm hyper sensitive to sound, so sometimes it's nothing and sometimes it's a small buzz a phone charger is making or something. I hate it

I hear a noise that sounds like the sound the old box TV's made when they were on. It's almost nostalgic.
