I know how you feel, and it's a deeply horrible feeling. if you would like to message me personally, I think it would be nice to be able to reach out to eachother and get reassurance when we need it:) no pressure! and I'm so sorry you have to deal with those thoughts:( not a lot of people understand how truly debilitating they are sometimes

I struggle with it a lot too. Have you tried medicine for it? I struggle with taking medication because of my anxiety but it got so bad I was desperate enough to try it and am so thankful I did. I don’t think that I have deadly conditions everyday anymore and those spiraling thoughts are much more tame now that I can stop them before they make me feel out of control. It also helps the symptoms that start those thoughts like racing heart and feeling like my throat was closing or things like that

@Cece7 do you have any techniques that help you when you feel yourself start to have those thoughts? I've tried everything, but I'm going through a mediocre medical issue and it's making me completely spiral. the anxiety and paranoia is debilitating at this point

@darrel I started really challenging my thoughts. So I’d make a list of the ā€œirrationalā€ worries I’d have and then next to those I would write what a person without health anxiety would say to those thoughts, or I would look up statistics on it being true. Like a couple years ago I had a tumor that I was super freaking out over. I had to have surgery to remove it and I was so terrified I’d die in surgery. So during that time, I’d have thoughts like ā€œI’m going to die from the anesthesia. I’m going to have a bad reaction and won’t wake upā€ then I would fight back that thought with something like ā€œmillions of people have surgeries and it’s so rare for someone to not wake up. I know people who had surgery and every one has woken up. There is only a 0.000005 chance I will not wake up according to statistics found online due to the anesthesia causing me issues. Only about 30 people die from anesthesia each year. When the population is so large in the country, it’s so unlikely I’d be one of those very small number.ā€ Sort of things like that would help me where every time I’d spiral I’d go back to that rational thought process. Eventually it becomes an automatic thing in your head and really over time it benefits a lot because now I can stop a lot of my thoughts before they go through the fear of dying stage. I would also recommend not looking up anything related to medicines or symptoms. Ask someone you know to do any research and filter it for you so you don’t hear the scarier rare things.

@cece7 that is really good advice in my opinion. I have only been struggling with my health anxiety for about 6 months now,but I have some mantras that I tell myself along with guided breathing with brown noise on YouTube. I pop in my headphones talk myself through it out loud and then breathe. I also sometimes set a timer because when I spiral like that my sense of time is distorted. I also find that if I move my body rather than just sit in a tight ball it helps work off some off the adrenaline and cortisol that comes from the anxiety. I'm still working through it I will have a good couple days, and then I will get a weird chest pain and convince myself I'm having a heart attack.. it is a process. Good luck.

Yes same here, its like the moment I open my eyes in the morning health anxiety starts right up. Any small change or feeling in my body send my thoughts spiraling out of control into a panic attack. This kind of anxiety just started up for me in February, and it's been a very rough time every since.. constant EMT calls, ER visits. It's horrible.
