How to Handle Relationships When You Don't Feel Understood

How do I handle relationships where I don’t feel understood because of my conditions?

I am so sorry you are having that problem. Firstly, you are not alone. It may take a while for your loved ones to truly understand. Find a time when you are not feeling bad, and then take that time to talk to that person. Try to explain in tactile and specific words what your body feels like (I.e it feels like glass in my legs), how your emotions are affected (I.e I feel helpless or angry) and what you need during that time (I.e. I need quiet or alone time....) It may take some time for them to totally understand what you are feeling an experiencing. You have to have patience with them and yourself. This is an adjustment thatnis new to them, too, but continue to keep open communication and keep telling them what you need! If it is a primary relationship like a spouse or significant other, a counselor may help you work through it and work out issues and expectations.

Oof. Good question. It depends on the type of relationship you mean. If it is romantic I can’t speak to that but if it is with family or friends I have a little more insight.
