Asking for a Handicap Sign/Sticker: How to Approach Your Doctor

I’m thinking of speaking with my primary care doctor about getting a handicap sign/sticker for parking etc because I have the hardest time breathing and walking long distances. Sometimes it’s even short distances. I can walk from my bed to my bathroom and become lightheaded/dizzy and I’ll also have chest pain and be out of breath. I’m unsure of how to bring the conversation up. Do I just simply ask for it or what?

I am definitely planning to get a service dog and I will definitely bring this up with my doctor on my visit this week.

yes! my sister also has a service dog and the handicap placard helps keep her safe as well (from heat, road debris, trash, cars)

my sister brought the exact same symptoms up to her doctor recently and got a sign off on a handicap placard and got it from the DMV next day. they’ll also give you two- one to keep in your car and one to take with you in case you ride with someone else

Jesus, that’s horrible that you can get tired that fast. Please get some mobile aid like a cane or service dog if you’re able

Yup- simply ask. They'll go through some questions, fill out an application, then you fill out some paperwork and get it in a few weeks.
