Does anyone else have problems with pulling their hair? I'm always tearing it out of my scalp and I want long healthy hair but I can't seem to break the habit š I will braid it sometimes and that helps but I forget

I have problems with my eyebrows and eyelashes
Does it feel satisfying to do it ? Mine is slightly different, i pick at scabs on my scalp
@Barbiegrl i do that as well, but it's more like if I feel a single strand that's not perfectly smooth, i tear it out because it bothers me and feels satisfying to remove it, but I'll pull it so much to the point my fingers get sore and sensitive
This sounds like Trichotillomania. I relate to this. I don't pull out my hair but I am obsessively messing with it. In many different ways. It's definitely a compulsion and it drives me insane sometimes. One of the many ways I'll mess with my hair is I'll twist it around my fingers really tight until I feel it tugging on my scalp. There's something about that tight feeling that is soothing.
@seedling I was going to say the same thing about it possibly being trichotillomania.
@seedling same I always break my hair as well so I have a lot of split ends but the more split ends I have the stronger the tendency is to pull it. Sometimes I pull it so much my finger get sore and sensitive it drives me insane too. It's like a stress response that turned into a bad habit but doing it also stresses me out more
@upsettispaghetti ugh I feel for you. I don't experience that with my hands but I do know how much it drives me nuts. Have you ever talked to anyone about this? I haven't yet I'm just curious.

Yes, others have experienced similar issues with hair pulling. This condition is called trichotillomania, a hair-pulling disorder. Some people have found relief by using fidget toys, wearing wigs, putting their hair up in a bun, or using certain medications prescribed by a psychiatrist. It's important to consult a healthcare professional for personalized advice and support.
