Struggling with Hair Picking

I struggle with picking at my hair. I pick the split ends, scratch individual strands until they break off, and pull from the root if it didn’t ~feel right~. I have naturally thick hair so it isn’t noticeable just by looking (to others) but I can tell that I am loosing length, it’s shorter than when I got a haircut in May, and I can fill how thin it’s getting. i’ve tried meds, I put my hair up just to take it out, I tried knitting and crocheting, but I cant stop. my fingers bleed from picking so much, im covered in piles of hair. it’s embarrassing

A family member with this used to carry around a paint brush and pick the bristles which helped a bit 💕

My cousin does this and has no eyebrows and eyelashes and her hairline is altered her father passed away and it didn’t look like it slowed down but my advice is maybe a fidget cube maybe gloves? I’m so sorry about your affixiation it’s just your brain trying to comfort you so maybe you can find a way to do that without your body and your materials

another totally ridiculous idea, a bandaid directly across your index finger tip. should be harder to pick that way.

i have an issue that might be similar, i pick at my face very badly, all day without even realizing it. maybe, try wearing a latex glove on your usual picking hand, and when you reach to pick, you will remember you are wearing a glove and remember why you are wearing a glove, and perhaps stop yourself in time? just an idea.
