Hair Loss on Methotrexate: Anyone Else Experienced This?

Does anyone on methotrexate have extreme hair loss as a side effect? my doc increased me from 4 pills 1x a week to 4 pills 2x a week (also on humira shot 1x every 2 weeks). Seems like when he increased my methotrexate, I started losing a LOT of hair. I don't have bald patches or anything but I've lost about 1/2 of my hair over the past few months, and it used to be super thick. I'm worried it won't stop but I don't want to change my treatment if it's helping me stay functional.

Can you help? connect today

Are you taking folic acid as well? My rheumy Rx (prescribes) folic acid for me to take every day. That seems to help. But I’m on a much lower dose. I’m only on 5 pills once a week (12.5 mg). Maybe talk to your doc if you’re worried about it?

I've not had any hair loss from it. I just have headaches and nausea. But it's tolerable.

I was put on a similar dose and lost a lot of hair and unhealthy weight loss. I tried switching to Enbrel and it seem to work better that was I able to get off Metho. Does it make you feel nauseous? Does it help your symptoms?

I'm on 5 tabs Methotrexate Mondays, and 3 tabs daily of folic acid. Very little hair loss. I see my rhumotologist tomorrow and expect her to up my Methotrexate. I don't know if the other will be upped as well.

I’m taking 8 tabs of methotrexate once a week and it caused a lot of hair loss, nausea, and chronic diarrhea my rheumatologist increased my folic acid to 5 tabs daily. It seems to help with the hair loss but not with anything else

Im on methotrexate for Lupus and I'm losing a lot of hair, but my lupus also comes with nonscaring alopecia. I just shaved my head so I wouldn't have to keep pulling chunks out, and letting it grow back evenly
