Guanfacine and OCD: Is there a connection?

does guanfacine cause ocd-like tendencies? how old were you when you were diagnosed with ocd? my brother is 6 ½ and just started taking guanfacine fire his ADHD and anger issues, but he's been starting to have a lot of ocd symptoms since he began taking it.

I haven't heard of that but I am not professional. I will say though that both is possible ADHD & OCD. It can also be confused with some similarities like OCD's obsessions and ADHD's hyperfixation. If one has both I personally believe they fuel each other. The more common side effect of guafacine is sedation of sorts as well, I used to take it. I don't have a negative view of it but thought it mellowed my personality (perhaps this is true but I also could have benefited from some therapy addressing social anxiety). One must also be careful going off it, has to be a slow taper off.

slightly unrelated but adhd ppl can also develop obsessive compulsive symptoms as a means to compensate for not being able to trust themselves – e.g. with checking a calendar a certain amount of times, etc
