GERD Surgery: Is It Right for Me?

I have Gerd and have had it for years but in the last couple of years it has gotten worse. I want to have reflux surgery but my gastroenterologist said my hernia wasn't big enough to have the surgery. I don't understand. Everytime I eat I feel like something gets stuck in my throat and I'm constantly clearing my throat. I don't enjoy eating anymore. I can't go on living like this. Does anybody else have this problem?

What are the downside of surgery, I am fine most of the day as long as I donā€™t lay down; the moment I do so, after 10 minutes, I hear this sound and gnawing feeling, all the air starts to push everything up. I follow special diet for the most part, never drink carbonated drinks, alcohol etc. Avoid spicy foods and red meat, you name it. This special diet helps but the real problem is when laying down, even with the elevated torso and head I have this problem. Feeling hopeless, I believe I need surgery, so curious to know what is the downside of the surgery?

what my doctors have told me is itā€™s a very risky surgery with lot of possible complications during and after. Sorry youā€™re feeling hopeless and sounds like youā€™re trying you best to work around it and find solutionsā€¦ thatā€™s so frustrating. If you havenā€™t already done so, check to make sure you arenā€™t ingesting things that ā€œhelpā€ stomach upset since they can relax the esophageal sphincter- ginger, peppermintā€¦- making more acid come up.

This happens to me and gotten worse lately since Iā€™ve been in a flare. I sip on apple cider vinegar water/tea throughout the day and lemon water with frankincense oil and it helps a lot. Salt helps with the nausea that comes along with it for me.

Honestly I was throwing up everyday. Using Braggs apple cider vinegar fixed my issue after many years. We are our own best doctor. Try healing it naturally. I'm proof it works. I've tried most meds available and they didn't fix anything. Doctor's treat symptoms they don't cure things. Surgery may work but it won't keep it from coming back.ā¤ļø

I am in the same boat as you, hernia is not big enough, PPIs donā€™t work much, everytime I lay down acid goes up burns esophagus, throat and nose drills. This week I will see another GI specialists, Iā€™ve suggested surgery since day 1 and they keep doing other tests but not surgery. 2 years without sleep and miserable.

Hot tea with 1tsp vinegar, 1 lemon juice and 1 tsp honey. I do it 3 times a day before meals like a half hour. You will get use to it.

You don't want the surgery if you can avoid it. The thing that helps me most is intermittent fasting and a very low carb diet. When I get back on carbs I suffer. YouTube channels to help are Jason Fung md. Ken d Berry md. Stan Ekberg, gold medalist Especially Jason Fung for intermittent fasting
