Possible GERD flare up despite taking Omeprazole

I think I’m having a GERD flare up, but it doesn’t make sense because I take Omeprazole. Is it possible to have some break through symptoms?

When I started pantoprazole, my doctor said that breakthrough symptoms were possible, and that I could treat them with OTC pepcid. I did end up on a prescription strength pepcid as my symptoms weren't controlled well enough with pantoprazole alone. I would give the OTC a try when symptoms flare.

You can absolutely have breakthrough episodes. I've had to cut things out of my diet to prevent them. I'm on an rx for GERD.

Yep, definitely possible. I’m taking pantoprazole and I still sometimes take one Tum tablet if I’ve had too much of a trigger food and I take Pepcid every night. So sorry to hear about the flair up! Hope you can sort out the symptoms ❤️

I take famotidine in the morning and pantoprazole at night, and I STILL have reflux and GERD symptoms. Sometimes I use my mom’s remedy: a teaspoon of baking soda in a glass of warm water, stir it up and chug it really fast. It neutralizes the acid, but it will make you burp a lot.
