Dealing with Chronic Ankle Pain and a Short Leg on a Disney Trip

I want to start by saying that I have a leg thats about an inch shorter than the other. I experience chronic ankle pain in my right, that flares up even when walking the short mile from school to my house. This summer I'm going on a trip to Disney, which, yknow, contains a load of walking. I'm kind of scared, I don't know what to do. I'm considering getting a cane and inserts for my shoes to even my hips out, but don't know if that'll help. Any tips??

Coincidentally I just got back from Disney and my cane was a LIFE SAVER. It helped so much even just standing. Luckily Disney also has a ton of places to sit so definitely take advantage of that. If its particularly bad don't be afraid to get/use a wheelchair, they have some available at the parks and were accommodating. Also if you are the kind of person who carries a bag with them, see if whoever you're with would be willing to carry it for you. It might not seem like it adds a lot of weight but your hips and ankles will thank you.

If you’re able to afford it, cobblers and a lot of podiatrists can adjust the sole of your shoe to balance out the unevenness. My dad had that done a while back, and it helped him quite a lot. Other than that, a cane and inserts sound like a good way to combat it. Like someone else said, plan some kind of hands-on treatment for after, like a massage. Even the roller massagers can help. Cold compresses to help reduce swelling from it, since swelling can cause more pain and/or damage. Prop your legs up after, too. I think discussing preparations with your doctor would be very beneficial. Good luck, and I hope you enjoy your trip!

I think that's a really good start. Maybe coordinate with your doc about pain management and whatever else it may take for you to have the time of your life! Congrats on the trip!

Yes these sound like nice tools to have for the occasional long walk. Perhaps some stronger painkillers for the trip, and prepare for the aftermath with a good foot massage/pedicure 💖 from the top of my head 🙆🏻‍♀️
