Does anyone know where I can get a free therapist? I feel like I need one, but I don't have the money for one. I know that I'm asking for a lot, but I think it would be good for my mental health if I actually talked about my problems instead of bottling it up inside all the time.

      Right now I can’t afford therapy so workbooks, councilors (Schools provide them and also some jobs), and accessible therapy like BetterHelp are god sends. Also if you have insurance call the number on your card and ask what your options are; if you have consistent struggles with mental health some insurances cover therapy and psychiatry in full, also they can point you in the right direction of more affordable therapist and other options

      If nothing else is an option/working for you something I do sometimes is just talk through my feelings out loud to myself, kind of “rehearsing” a conversation I’d have with a therapist (I don’t have a therapist either, partially for financial reasons but also just because I never connected with any therapists I tried in the past in a way that was actually productive in working on my mental health). It’s definitely helped me work through a lot of my own feelings because speaking them out loud helps me process them and think about them from a more rational place, I don’t feel like I’m bottling them up as much anymore. Hope you find something that works for you 💕

      I don’t know what all issues you are dealing with currently but I do know some organizations can find you therapists and get you free therapy sessions. I was able to do so from an organization that helps women with domestic violence situations.

        @Cece7 I think I have PTSD bc my mom was abusive. I'm not diagnosed with anything, but I also think I have depression, anxiety, a little bit of ocd, and an eating disorder.

      Try chat owl! It's an AI lead therapy app that's free. I'm trying it now (and not being consistent enough with it). It's no full replacement to talk therapy but it's better than nothing.

      what's your insurance look like? if you're in america and not working, medicaid is currently free and otherwise on a sliding scale where you don't need to pay more than like $5 up until you make $1400/month, and mine completely covers my therapy. many places do telehealth now, some exclusively, so if you don't want to go to an office there's that. look up places in your area; there should be some kind of mental health alliance or gov-funded clinic that are meant to help you get resources and can help you with things like finding a therapist in network, sliding scale prices, or grants for free therapy. if all else fails, i highly recommend trying some workbooks! they've kept us sane and working on our mental health while in between therapists. (: good luck!

        @ryce what kind of workbooks?

        • ryce

          645d

          @Harley.Q because I have a dissociative disorder, I've been working through "coping with trauma based dissociation", and in therapy I was working through "OCD workbook: brain based therapy for OCD: a workbook for clients and clinicians" There's plenty out there with their own focuses. I did a DBT one back in the day. good luck researching!

        @ryce Medicaid varies by state. In most states you cannot qualify unless you have a dependent, are pregnant, or have been deemed disabled by the Social Security Administration. There are a few states that will cover you still, but not many. That's the boat I'm in. I can't get Medicaid out here like I had in another state and idk what to do.

          @Sunflower.System dang, i'm so sorry ): totally slipped my mind, that's something im going to need to worry about too when we end up moving. good luck to you, i know getting deemed disabled is a pain just about everywhere these days too

        @ryce oh, and many workbooks have journaling prompts or other activities mixed in with some mental health education, so it might help you work some stuff out or talk to yourself in a way if you can't talk to anyone else. wish u the best!

      It's not really therapy, just a thing where you can talk about whatever with a trained listener, but it's the only thing I know that's free. It's called 7cupsoftea
