My current doctor hasn't been listening to my needs as far as my illnesses go. Should I consider finding someone else? Who can I go to without a referral?

Definitely try scouting your area for a new one. It’s crucial to have a doctor you trust, especially with chronic illnesses.

Finding a good primary care doctor is essential and you shouldn’t need a referral to get a new doctor. They run tests you need, can get prescriptions and get you referrals to specialists. Make sure a doctor always listens to your needs and move on if they don’t. I’ve had a lot of bad experiences myself and the process of transferring records and finding new doctors is exhausting but it’s worth it. It adds so much stress to try to convince doctors to listen.

yes!! I realized recently that finding a good doctor is the same as finding a good therapist. it’s not only about what they know, but how well they can connect with you and are willing to listen. where are you need a referral depends on your insurance, but you might need to find a new primary care doctor in order to get treatment
