Finding a New Doctor for Mental Health Prescriptions

I have to find a new Dr since I just moved and am super anxious about it. does anyone get their prescriptions from a general Dr or just a psychiatrist? trying to figure out which one would be best to find first.

My clinic uses nurse practitioners to prescribe meds they are all trained in psych meds. I then have a regular councilor i talk to weekly for 30 min. But only because i had a crisis year and am still recovering when things settle ill see them biweekly.and my meds dr 1x a month. Currently i see her every 3 weeks to 2 weeks.

I would go with general doctor. They can recommend the best psychiatrist for you as they have been in the area and likely working with them due to shared patients. A lot of general practitioners will continue your previous meds for you while you wait to get into the psychiatrist.

Psychiatrist for sure.
