What are the steps I should take in finding a therapist/psychologist. I haven’t had one since the summer because I was at a point in my life where talking about my past and emotions was overwhelming and I was doing pretty good on my own. I also just didn’t like that therapist. But now school has started (I’m a senior) and I have swim practice 6 days a week. I am extremely overwhelmed and stressed so now I need professional help. Where should I start?

See a psychiatrist first and then based on your conditions they can recommend a therapy program! I went through so many years of meds and therapists and nothing worked until I saw a psychiatrist and they were able to diagnose stuff other than just anxiety and depression and they found me a dbt program which is sooo much better than cbt because dbt actually teaches you skills and is very very skill oriented all about teaching you proven ways to help you deal with issues. The main topics are mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotional regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness!! Cbt never worked for me because you just rant about your problems and they are like okay breathe deeply and honestly it just made things worse!

If you feel comfortable about it, I would ask around your friends or people from your neighborhood.. also virtual groups of people that live around you, that’s how I found mine😌 good luck!

I started looking online for virtual meetups with one, I found a pretty good one on Bark but it has a lot of stressful hoops on it. I would mostly look for real websites that have an office number for the therapist instead.
