Vacationing with Fibromyalgia: Tips and Recommendations

How should I go about vacations with Fibromyalgia? I haven’t gone on an overnight vacation in 2-3 years because the last one caused such a huge flareup it honestly scarred me from wanting to go anywhere. But I’d like to try again, and family and friends are hinting at wanting to take another trip— so what precautions can I take? Or any recommended vacation ideas you’ve found very easy on us Fibro people? Thanks!

Comfy clothes, comfy and supportive shoes, and topicals for your self-care routine. Also, spoon theory mindfulness and the ability to say “no”, you don’t have to join the physically taxing activities. You can chose to read a book by the river alone while people are hiking or doing an activity your body can’t handle. And making sure you’re not eating anything that will make you feel worse. I use Kratom when I’m flaring for too long, but only take in 3-day increments so I don’t get dependent on them.

Thank you! Yes I’ve heard of the Spoon theory! I try to keep that in mind. My last vacation it was just me and my friend, and I felt like I was being a drag on her trip, so I wayyy overextended myself, when I should’ve just said no. It’s hard with invisible illnesses and trying to tell people that you aren’t fine when you look fine!
