I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia several years ago. Recently I had an abnormal ANA test. My PCP is sending me to a Rheumatologist but they can't get me in until October. I'm driving myself crazy and I believe they're leaning toward Lupus. Can anyone give me some advice or words of encouragement? Thanks!!

A lupus diagnosis can take years. I have been with a rheu for five years now and they still won’t definitively call it SLE or MCTD. My symptoms started with hair loss, fatigue, and joint pain. Positive ANA, but that did not determine a diagnosis in my experience. A rheu might be able to put you on meds that will help keep your symptoms from developing further, quickly. Hydroxychloroquine has helped stabilize my blood work. Good luck 🙏

@TrixNY did you have anything else abnormal besides ANA?

@JustRachelle I had elevated sedimentation rate and hypothyroid/hashimoto for two years before testing ANA positive.

@JustRachelle There were 2 different ones that started with ANA that were abnormal. But other than my cholesterol and triglycerides being slightly elevated, no. That's all.

This ANA test thing is tricky.. In 2015 I had a positive ANA and I was sent to a rheumatologist and the rheumatologist said I had fibromyalgia so I’m sure my blood work was okay then.. I also had a ANA test back in October at my doctors office and it came back positive… 3 weeks later she did another one with a different lab and it came back negative… she also did other blood work and everything came back okay.. 2 weeks ago my rheumatologist did a few blood test.. the ANA came back 1:80 so it’s negative but this time my RNP levels came back High (3.4) so my ENA was abnormal … so I’ve had 2 positive ANA and 2 negative ANA.. It’s had to say not to worry because we all do but at least “try” not to.. it’s all frustrating and irritating.. and both times I had a positive ana my primary care doctor said lupus but the rheumatologist said fibromyalgia… at that time no other test came back abnormal so I’ll see what she says tomorrow

My doctor did the ANA on me and it came back positive and I was referred to a rheumatologist. When I saw the rheumatologist she ran another panel of blood work and when everything on me came back okay except for the positive ANA she said it was just fibromyalgia. She said my ANA wasn’t high enough to be lupus. Try not to worry yourself like I did waiting for the appointment or results of blood work. I’m not saying you won’t have lupus but I just don’t want you to worry like I did. It made me so stressed out thinking the worst. Try to think positive and keep your mind occupied with something else until your appointment gets here. I’m here for you if you need to talk! 😊
