Need advice on talking to GP about fibromyalgia

Hey guys. Has anyone got any advice about speaking to your GP to investigate into fibromyalgia? Feels like my doctors don’t listen to me and think they know best.

You definitely need a new doc and I’m so srry that they treated you like that and gaslighted you. I hope things work out! Your pain is valid and your symptoms are valid! 💜

You're not overweight. I'm so mad for you. Doctors blaming symptoms on weight, stress, anxiety etc is such a cop-out. My previous doctor said it was my weight and stress/anxiety - didn't listen to the fact I was a healthy weight and very active, plus mentally healthy before my symptoms started. I changed doctors to someone who listened to me and got the rheumatology referral I need for a diagnosis. Get a new doctor asap, as fibro is diagnosed by exclusion and can take a while to diagnose. Sending well wishes 🫂

thank you so much for this! I made a complaint to my surgery and they’re putting me with a different doctor from now on so hopefully I can get one small step closer now :)

Hey, I would suggest asking them for a referral to a Rhumetologist and speaking to them about the fibro diagnosis.

hey thought I’d reply with an update. I went to the doctors today and basically got told I don’t need a referral because the pain im having isn’t that bad and it’s caused by me being overweight (I’m 19y/0 10 stone and a size 12) Personally don’t understand this decision because I’ve been diagnosed with other muscle and joint issues in the past so feel like I’m going to have to go private on this one as the gp won’t listen :(
