Feeling Alone with Fibromyalgia

I just got diagnosed with fibromyalgia and I feel super alone. it started in August and it's been non stop. this doesn't even feel like a flare up it just feels like I'll be stuck like this forever. is there anything to do with coping? I'm starting cymbolta which is supposed to help my depression and pain but what if it doesn't? what if I'm just sad and in pain forever ya know

Can you help? connect today

I've had some success with Cymbalta! I was just prescribed it for my depression but it's helped with the fibro too. I know it's annoying when people preach yoga as a "cure" or fix, but doing gentle yoga when I can has really helped me recently. Also compression socks and gloves help my pain. I know it's scary but you'll be alright, hang in there!

thank you so much! I'm really hoping this medicine works because meloxicam wasn't helping with the pain at all. I'll definitely try yoga I just assumed everyone suggesting it was talking out of their ass but I'll give it a try! thanks !

i tried cymbalta and honestly it didn’t help my depression or pain. i have also tried amitriptyline, which helped my depression the best out of all the antidepressants i’ve tried but it gave me a heart murmur so that’s one to be careful with. muscle relaxers are definitely the best for pain but they make me way too sleepy so i went off of them. now i’m on gabapentin, which helps significantly with everything; my psych prescribed me it for anxiety too, and it has done wonders for my mental health and pain. i would definitely recommend that. physical therapy is also helpful. it gets better, i’m sorry you’re feeling so defeated but you’ll find the right treatment plan for you. you just gotta find a good doctor who understands fibromyalgia.

thank you for responding! it makes me feel a little less alone I'm starting phsyical therapy soon (just went in to see what needed to be done and stuff. the doctor suggested exercises to strengthen my bones) I'm hopeful that the medicine will work but if it doesn't I'll definitely try the ones you mentioned. thank you !!

You’re not alone, although I know it often feels like that. “Invisible” illnesses are so tricky and isolating. I find some gentle yoga or stretching sometimes helps, especially out of a hot bath or shower. I search on YouTube specifically for yoga for chronic pain, yoga for fibro, or yoga for IBD (I have crohns as well and there’s a lot of overlap for me between my crohns and fibro symptoms). Also, not sure if you have access/are comfy with it, but weed has been super helpful for my muscle pain/sleep problems/appetite - although it makes my brain fog worse so we’re on a break right now lol. I hope this helps, and my inbox is always open if you have questions or want to talk 💕

I do actually take edibles for sleep and pain problems and that has been helping a lot! I didn't know there were so many videos about fibro on YouTube I didn't even think to check that so thank you! I'll definitely try yoga :)
