Is Fibromyalgia an Autoimmune Disease?

What are your thoughts on fibro potentially being an autoimmune disease? I know general consensus in research is that it’s not- however last summer this article suggests otherwise: https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2021/07/210701120703.htm Thoughts?

I hope this is a legit article.. I strongly believe that it’s autoimmune as well because we basically deal with all of the symptoms etc that comes with autoimmune diseases! We feel it! And with it coming in flares for some people and constant with other people.. smh it has to be deeper than our brain sending signals

Having Fibromyalgia I know it is considered a neurological disorder, however I know some Drs consider it a auto immune disorder, however I agree it mimicks and could definitely classify under auto immune.

Since there seems not to be a cure or a real aid to this. Does it matter what you want to call it?

well that’s the thing - if it is considered autoimmune there’s more of a chance fibro will be researched further and a cure can be developed. Basically doctors will take it more seriously

There is alot of background on this actually. Im really hopeful that there could be a diagnostic test from this study. I found additional information on it.

I don't believe it is autoimmune as it does not cause inflammation in the blood. I believe it is a disorder of the nervous system and I believe that is why it is often brought on by injury, illness, or trauma.
