Hey guys. Just looking for some advice here. I still haven’t been able to eat and have now lost 9 pounds in about 10 days because every time i eat i get extreme abdominal pain and can’t keep food down. I went to the doctor yesterday and she told me she didn’t know what was wrong with me. And then i went to the ER later that evening and the doctors and nurses would not listen to me and brushed this whole this off as nothing and sent me home because my labs were normal. I am just so frustrated and can’t get in to see a GI doctor until January and was told by a nurse to “just try and enjoy the holiday season and see the doctor next month.” IDK i’m just not sure what to do because i can’t keep loosing weight like this and getting weaker and weaker for a month with zero help. Anyone know what I should do until then??

You may have Gastroparesis. A somewhat common comorbidity of EDS. I would suggest making a normal doctor appointment and really pushing it on them to get you a diagnosis. Before the appointment make sure that you really know your stuff because they sadly won’t really pay much attention if you don’t. Until then eating soft foods and nutritional drinks could hopefully help, I would also recommend watching some Gastroparesis videos to get some ideas on foods that would be easier to eat. Hope this helps!❤️

Please keep trying more doctors if you can. That was absolutely horrible that they did that to you. Disabilities dont disappear because theres a tree lit in someones house youre still not okay. Me personally I have not done this before because I didnt know about it back then but theres a good chance you can request testing (to narrow things down from like gastroparesis to ulcers) and if they refuse then request for it to be noted in their notes with the reason why it was denied. If you keep getting refused then you have it noted and your insurance or other doctor might be able to work something out in your favor. This is what I have heard other disabled people do and its what I plan on doing for when I get refused. It might be worth lowering fiber in your diet as well to see if that might be a trigger. Trying full liquids like smoothies and soups might ease some symptoms depending on where they are coming from. If you get sick over night or in the mornings try propping yourself up (i use a wedge pillow) and it helps heart burn and acid reflux. I also sleep on my left side to keep any stomach contents away from the entry and exit ways especially when i dont use the pillow. Depending where you are you might find dramamine in general stores like target and it helps with naeusua. If youre immediately sick upon eating or drinking try sniffing isopropal alcohol it can halt it temporarily in certain people. Its a genetic trait so it depends. I get the bulk of my fat in my diet from milk, one cup at a time with a protein powder mixed in tends to feel smooth so if you tolerate milk that can help in fat and protein. I dont know what you have already tried but I hope theres something in there for you. Do you throw up food two hours after eating and its still mostly solid? If you throw up undigested food after the normal amount of time keep track of the hours and write it down to see if there is a pattern. List of foods you are trying and your reactions to narrow triggers down. Keep on top of your electrolytes as GI issues really make that imbalanced. I hope you get answers soon and find better doctors. Keep posting too you might find something good.

Spoonii, let me start by saying that I’m sorry for what you’re going through and I hope for your full and quick recovery! I agree with hammy, changing to a soft and more digestible food might expedite your recovery and ease your stomach. When you eat, take small bites with long intervals between them, and whenever you’re full just stop and eat again in a few more minutes. Hope your GI doctor will bring some good news. Be well!

Try foods low in sugar and higher protein and fat. You can try smoothies and just sip on them throughout the day. Emetrol for nausea has been a God send and it's over the counter. Also know if you go to ER and they're not giving you the proper care, you can refuse leaving and request new dr or speak to patient advocate for help. They are there to help you.
