Escaping Trauma Through Hobbies

Has anyone else ever found out that their favorite hobby used to be the only escape available from abuse and/or neglect? I’ve just scratched the surface of this realization and digging deeper into it gives me anxiety.

Yes and it still hurts thinking about those things. Im making an attempt to ‘take it back’ as in rebrand it into something actually useful and different. I did art like painting and writing. Both got ruined. I didnt do it for me I did it for survival so Im starting over with journaling and drawings. When I first put things together I didnt want anything to do with art. But it keeps calling me, so I use it to understand myself now. Its really hard sometimes and I hope whatever youve been through you find peace over this hobby whether you leave it or continue on.
