Any medication besides hydroxyzine that has been helpful for anxiety and panic attacks? I really need something more effective

@ModernGhost Sometimes you need to take something strong like Xanax so your body has time to heal. Stress does a lot of damage to your body. I’ve noticed my panic attacks are much calmer. I went from daily 8 hour attacks to 10 minute attacks here and there…and they completely stop once I take a Xanax. I hope you find peace and can enjoy life again, I know how hard that road is. ❤️

Yes, they are correct... I get Hydroxizine too but it doesn't hold a match to the relief of Benzos like Alprazolam (Xanex), Clonazapam (Klonopin), & Lorazepam (Ativan). I used to get Klonopin for long term mood/ anxiety, and Ativan for acute panic attacks. Now docs avoid prescribing benzodiazipams, so if you can get them consider it a blessing. Otherwise, hey I come from a state where cannabis healing is legal so yeah. ✌️

Klonopin works wonders. It’s in the same benzodiazepine class as Xanax it is just longer acting. Xanax is short acting/has a shorter half life. Klonopin has a longer half life/stays in your system longer. You can’t go wrong with either. Prozac has also helped me tremendously with anxiety.

@E_belli I’ve never heard of that before now actually, only Xanax has been mentioned for me but now that I know this I am very glad. I can’t take Ssri’s due to them heightening my bipolar disorder, but I wish I didn’t have such bad reactions to them

@Kaiiyla I have a lot of useless medication knowledge because I get bored and research haha. I getchu, I can only take the Prozac bc I take a mood stabilizer and an antipsychotic for the same reason. I'm sorry you have a bad reaction though, that sucks! I hope you can find something that works. Living in a world with less anxiety is wonderful. Mine isn't gone but it is considerably reduced so that my quality of life is better, I hope the same for you.

Sertraline / Zoloft. I tried hydroxyzine and it made me feel worse.

I’ve tried both medications and herbal route ma and found some relief in chamomile capsules and CBD. Unfortunately the only other route is addictive alternatives which I have not tried due to personal beliefs/values. However, you know your body and mind best!

@Noelle2772 I’ve been considering trying Cbd, I definitely will look into it more cause I’ve heard it’s worked for many people!

Xanax. Although highly addictive if taken everyday. Nothing helped my panic attacks. I was prescribed Xanax everyday I got a panic attack and it has been a miracle. I haven’t taken it in over 4 weeks now.

@ModernGhost thank you so much I really appreciate it, my therapist actually wanted me on Xanax to take as needed when I was struggling with agoraphobia and I think it really could be what I need right now so I’ll look into it ;) definitely need to watch out for the addictiveness though!

@ModernGhost Also, I know it’s not a medication but the app called CBT Thought Diary has done wonders for helping me through panic attacks. I know this won’t work for everyone but a good piece of advice from my therapist is to think about how during a panic attack you think of the worst things that could happen,, you are just playing make believe and preparing for things that most likely won’t happen. Instead flip it, what if everything is okay? Fantasize about things working out. I know it’s wayyyy easier said then done, but like I said before I was in a very dark place and this is what worked for me.
