How to Deal with Driving Anxiety?

I'm 21 with only a permit and it'll probably stay like that forever. I'm too anxious to drive anymore because I've caught myself daydreaming while behind the wheel. I once accidentally ran a red light because of it. I'm terrified that I'm going to crash or hurt someone now so I don't drive anymore. To those who drive and have maladaptive daydreaming...how?

If it makes you feel better, I ran into a car in the intersection because I was daydreaming lol. Well, not lol, it was expensive and terrifying. Anyway, one thing that could help is to talk to someone on the phone to keep your mind engaged so it wouldn’t wander off. A method of mine that does the trick of “snapping me out” of a intense dream would just immediately ruin the storyline/context and start meditating to help keep my mind under control. Similar to picturing your grandma naked to throw some mental ‘cold water’ when you’re in a public setting (weird analogy, but you get what I’m saying). But know this: you are going to get that license and you are going to show your mind that you are calling the shots. Never say never, you got this! Try to keep a growth mindset and acknowledge that this path of rewiring your brain is going to be a long and difficult journey. Walking slowly is better than standing still bro, you got this. Just know that you got a community on this app that’ll always cheer you on for any goal you set, no matter how big or small they are.

I dissociative often when I drive. Sometimes I daydream but mostly it's just going blank. There have been times where I got from one point to the other with no memory of how I got there. I also have ADHD which caused me to rear-end someone.... twice 🥲
