Disagreement with Primary Care Provider over Celiac Diagnosis

Got into a disagreement with my primary care provider yesterday, while I was there for my annual visit. I was recently diagnosed with Celiac and was asking what additional tests, labs, screeners she would recommend. I came in with notes from celiac.org that noted quite a few key things to test for, she denied me needing half of them, and then proceeded to tell me she has little to no experience with Celiac Disease. It's not like I came in with google results, it's a reputable source. But she dismissed my concerns. Then she tried to tell me that BMI has more credibility than HAES, which is nonsense. I'm angry and upset and I really just want to order comfort food, but it's all filled with gluten.

I recommend finding a gastroenterologist that knows a lot about celiac.

As someone that's been diagnosed with celiac since 2003, get a new doctor. Guidelines have updated in recent years and people with celiac should receive follow up testing even while on a gluten free diet. This is to determine if your GF diet is strict enough or if you potentially have refractory celiac, which doesn't fully respond to a GF diet. You can call around or search online for providers with experience with celiac.

Get a new doctor. I see a gastroenterologist. I've learned how to make a lot of comfort foods GF but be careful, I tend to turn to food and I have obesity to add to my list because of it. But, that being said, I may have a suggestion if you tell me what comfort foods help you. There is many more GF options now then there was when I was adjusting.

Get a new doctor they shouldn't be so quick to dismiss you without doing research to get more informed especially if they don't know much
