I’m thinking of started my disability process or at least talking to a lawyer who handles fibromyalgia cases. I watched a few videos on YouTube about filing for disability with fibromyalgia and some were saying to be treated by a rheumatologist… it’s hard for me because my diagnosis was confirmed by a rheumatologist & neurologist recently but they both referred me to my Primary Care Doctor for treatment.. I was initially diagnosed with fibromyalgia in 2016 by a rheumatologist (he was the rudest doctor ever) but my primary care doctor is the greatest! She also got me my parking permit.. should I go ahead and file or not? Idk

I think it’s worth it in the long run. Until they make a Fibro treatment that works for everyone or they find a way to cure it, we’re stuck with it. Even the Guifenisen protocol is tricky and while it has “cured some people” it doesn’t work for everyone. So until the medicines and the care and education and the cure gets better, I say do it. Chronic pain typically gets worse with age bc of other health complications, not better. I’ve chosen to be on disability bc I couldn’t support myself with work anymore. Others insist on working until they die no matter the physical consequences. It’s really quite up to you. You know yourself better than anyone else, and you know what you can handle and what you can’t. Just do yourself a favor and be honest with yourself about it.

I have no experience with this, so these are just my thoughts, but I would think as long as you have the documentation from the neurologist and rheumatologist with the diagnosis and their recommendation for you to be treated by your PCP that should suffice. If you don't have those documents the doctors offices do and you can request a copy be sent to your lawyer, but you'll likely have to sign a release form. If you have a good doctor I would say don't loose them because it may seem better to have another doctor treating it. Hopefully that helps!
