(Forgive me, I have internalized ableism.) At what point am I disabled enough to try claiming disability? my fibromyalgia brought my life as I knew it to a stop about 18 months ago and haven't worked since then. my husband and I were fortunate enough to sell our home, pay off our debt, and live without my income for a long time. but now the bills are coming back, and I considering trying going back to work (retail kitchen), but I honestly don't know if I can. it sucks because I'll have some great weeks where I can get a lot accomplished with very little pain. then I can just turn wrong and it's like a chain reaction until I'm nearly bedridden for a few days and on light duty for a while after. what if I start work, the stress causes flares and I'm right back where I started?

@mashedpotatoes start getting copies of your doctor visits and try getting anything you had medically done to you in records. Pgysival and mental. Start asking your dr. To put in your notes your inability to do things without immense pain ect.

Having other symptoms and illnesses documented or diagnosed helps. It's much easier if it's a mental health diagnosis and your seeking treatment....When filling out your paperwork (especially when having illnesses that have some days better and worse) make sure to fill it out based on your worst days. It's very rare to get approved with your first application just file for the appeal. This is stressful as it can take some time. I know it's hard but try not to feel guilty for applying for help. That's what it's there for, especially help that you paid into when you were healthier. Just like having to advocate for yourself at drs appts continue that on all other aspects noone knows you like yourself! ❤️ Good luck!

I’ve been asking myself the same question. I’ve been out of work since April and my bf has been supporting me for the last few months. It’s so hard to know what to do when you get to the point of needing an income but also being unsure you can even have a job. I’ve been thinking about disability too. Not sure what the process is or how long it takes, though.
