Differentiating Mania from General Wellbeing in Bipolar Disorder

For someone that’s new and pretty unfamiliar with my bipolar diagnosis— how can you differentiate mania from just general wellbeing??

For me it’s easy. If I have endless energy to the point where I can go days or a week without sleeping and feel fine, I know I’m manic.

hey new here and trying to get involved—for me the sleep is the biggest thing to note. Not if you’re having fun one night and end up staying up late for shits and gigs. But like genuinely can’t sleep, more restless than usual. For some of my friends it comes out in impulsivity and risky behaviors with sex or drugs. As a wise person commented it’s definitely dependent on the person bc it’s slightly different for everyone but these are the ones I note👍🏻🙏🏻❣️

Let people go who can alter your moods negatively, we are much more sensitive to stimuli and should not be overstimulated ( can make mania worse ) . I took my personal health very seriously and cut off the most toxic human being in my life, my own mother. Do what needs to be done in order to live a peaceful and bliss life. We only get one, why waste on others opinions on our personal episodes . Be safe and stay strong

Yeah I agree, but I make sure that if I get too out of my line that I have my back up coping mechanisms ; it’s important to be smarter and analyze patterns. We always like to blame ourselves for everything when external factors can also influence our episodes of depression and mania .

Uh, well normally (for me anyways) mania is a sudden increase in productivity, I sleep less, have trouble sitting still, I tend to act more impulsive-- like wanting to spend money suddenly even tho a few days ago I was crying over how hard it was to save anything. It can feel like a switch "flips" and suddenly I'm turned into the Energizer bunny. You wont have every symptom I have, and you may end up with more, it all depends on the person tbh. I hope this helpsss
