I asked my therapist abt it for myself & she said ppl tend to think of it like the “gold standard” of ptsd therapy, but there’s a standard checklist & script for doing it, so if at any point you feel uncomfortable or like you need to slow down easing into it, don’t be afraid to ask for a pause on it. It’s not for everyone & it is intense, so give yourself some planned time and space for decompression

EMDR is fantastic and really helped me. However, it's important to know that while it's very helpful in the long term, it can be extremely triggering in the short term. I highly recommend it, but it's good to be prepared and know that it's likely to be a rough day after doing a session of EMDR. I recommend having a plan for how to take care of yourself after an appointment. Practice coping skills and if you can, have a support system around you after. I really don't say this to scare you or anything. EMDR is genuinely very helpful and I'd absolutely recommend it, it made a big difference in my PTSD symptoms. I just wished someone had warned me how emotionally exhausting and triggering it could be.

EMDR is great if you go into expecting a good outcome
