I was diagnosed with lupus last year as a shot in the dark because I had been having pain in my hands/wrists for 3 years and nothing orthopedically was helping or solving the problem. I found out about auto-immune diseases as a kid because, as bad luck might have it, my mom has lupus.

I was actually first led to Sjogren’s because of parotid gland pain and my own Google search and was originally diagnosed with that by a general med NP, but then when I went to a rheumatologist to get treatment he ran more labs and it turns out to be lupus
