Dexcom and the postcode lottery of diabetes care in the UK

Love being on the dexcom only had a week and it's made a massive difference to my management.... but in the UK our NHS is a postcode lottery depending where you live depends if you can get access to certain things, my diabetic team is in a different town to where I live because my local one was not giving me the support I need and I have just had to fight with my GP in my home town to get the dexcom on prescription as they don't get the funding for it. They are in the same county... and are about half an hour away ita crazy.... I feel for people in America who have to fight even harder just for insulin......

I understand what you mean. I wouldn’t get considered for my libre unless I did this DAPHNE course (I’m based in north uk). To be honest though I really enjoyed the course. I got diagnosed in lockdown so the course was all over Video call but I got to meet some other people with type one and hear their experiences. But yes there our some things they won’t fund and you have to fight tooth and nail for. I developed really bad anxiety before getting libre and would Finger prick test constantly because I was terrified of having a bad hypo (I was in my first year of diagnosis at this point). The pharmacy was getting so annoyed with how many strips I was going through and they would cancel my orders but luckily I got a call off a really nice doctor who understood I was anxious and she put my prescription up for me.

my issue is that without this I don't test even with the libre I have a condition called diabulima which is a fear of gaining weight when doing insulin.... it's sooo hard to get my doctors to understand that without this I actually will end up costing more in the long run because of the complications that I will end up having... it's soo frustrating..... but when you get the right support its great
