Does anyone have dreams where they know they are asleep and are desperately trying to wake themselves up by pinching, yelling, willing, etc. and sometimes have dreams that last such a long time u begin to think u will never wake up and just pray that someone comes and shakes you awake

Yes I occasionally I do. I've had then for several year now so doesn't really bother me anymore as much. But when they first started I did but I just tried my best to not think about that and found talking to myself and or listening to music helps me

Yessss very frustrating!! It’s like in my dream I know I’m asleep and trying to wake myself up but I’m waking up in my dream and don’t realize it until some more weird shit happens later in the dream that I didn’t actually wake up in reality. And sometimes it’s I know I’m dreaming and I try to get out of it and end up thrashing and yelling trying to (while still asleep) and then someone literally wakes me up if I’m not alone. When I’m alone it’s worse because no one wakes me up and my dreams are usually weird and violent so it’s usually someone in the doorway trying to kill me and I know I’m dreaming so I try and wake up but I’m just stuck and end up having seizures in my dream desperately wanting someone to come help in my dream. I have no idea what’s really happening when that happens because I haven’t had anyone around to wake me up when I’ve had a dream seizure. I’ve never had one awake so it’s very concerning once I actually wake up after that. I don’t find dreaming a fun experience lol so yes desperately like to be woken up.

@KitKat1450 I would say try to start doing things before bedtime that help calm and relax your mind and body. Keep your mind positively distracted before bed. That way your subconscious won't be upset and trigger you to have violent dreams

I've experienced this many times before too. This is the best I've heard it explained

I know exactly what you mean. I get it too and I usually 'wake up' thrashing my arms around and in a major sweat.

I get that, I hate getting stuck in nightmares

Not necessarily during my dreams but sometimes I get in this weird sort of "in-between" state where I'm not fully awake but not fully asleep, and I'll be aware that I'm sleeping but can't wake myself up.

@out_of_orexin like sleep paralysis?

@Libby123 Not quite, it almost feels like I'm in a bubble where sound is muted and everything is a little hazy, like if you were in a big plastic bubble
