Addicted to Pain Meds: How Long Does It Take?

Hi BossladyBukes, I'm sorry you too are dealing with long-term pain. To answer your question; yes, you're physically dependent/addicted to the medicine. Any narcotic meds like Codeine, Percocet, Oxycodone, Oxycontin, etc. will become physically dependent within a few days. After taking your medicine for 8 years and no longer getting pain relief it's likely you need to change to another pain medicine. Your body gets used to the drug and eventually the effects wear off or you need to take a higher dose and change medication totally. That's of course something you would talk to your physican about.
