Struggling to Remember Things with Depression

Does anyone else badly struggle to remember things when your depression worsens? Not just short term things either, like I feel like I've been depressed for so long that I can't remember key moments that have happened in my life.. or like years of my life have just drifted away.

Yeah then I feel bad when I see my sister wear a shirt and I ask when she got it. She thinks I'm joking because I gave it to her I just forgot

Okay I’m so glad to hear someone else is struggling with this! I have lost so many precious memories that I want back…. I don’t know if it’s depression or the medications I’m on, but I can’t remember hardly anything anymore!

I don't take any meds and still have this happen. So probably the depression

I thought I was the only one who experienced this! It’s scary sometimes, other times it’s just kind of blurry/foggy

Yes for sure and I haven’t been on depression meds most of my life and if I have been on them it was for a short time. I did some research but specifically for bipolar and it can lead to brain damage by reducing the size of gray matter. I would assume depression would as well. There are ways to improve gray matter so hopefully it doesn’t degenerate. My memory is bad. I typically only remember snippets. My friends or family will ask me about something and half the time I’m like I don’t remember or I wasn’t there. They explain the whole memory apparently with me in it and I’m just dumbfounded because I don’t remember. Super frustrating!
