Struggling with Depression and Addiction

Hey, i’ve had depression for ab 6-7 years and struggled with addiction for 5 years now & i can tell it’s making my depression a lot more intense. i just recently got clean off something but i had been on substances for so long idk how to be “happy” or at least deal w my depression being sober for more than longer a few days. I’ve tried a lot of meds for depression but since i’ve been on other things i never got to see if they really worked. I’m just introducing myself & seeing if anybody has any tips going forward

(TW: alcohol) im going through something similar now actually and trying to find alternatives to help me stay sober. Something that works a little bit as of recently is when i get an urge to drink and drown out my thoughts i pop in a really sour candy. My therapist recommended it saying that it’s a physical reaction your body focuses on for a couple minutes instead of the thoughts rushing around. I use warheads but anything extremely sour should work similarly
