so I work at Bjs wholesale club in their bakery department. and they recently decided to enforce the rules, which in my opinion should have been enforced the whole time. But in this enforcement, they're not allowing electronic devices to be used in food prep areas. I like to listen to my favorite songs when I'm overwhelmed and was having no problem doing so until they decided to enforce the policy. I brought in a note from my psychiatrist asking for an accommodation to have one earbud in to help keep my head grounded, cause I also have an anxiety disorder. And my supervisor rejected it. She said that because of company policy and OSHA regulations, they can't allow it. I get I work with food, but its not like I'm constantly touching my phone or the earbud, once its in my ear, there would be no need to touch it. Music helps distract me from intrusive negative thoughts in my head and without it, I have panic attacks. I would think that having this accommodation in my circumstance would make the workplace safer for everyone since my panic attacks are pretty brutal. Hoping I don't have to get a lawyer.
