The Struggle of Deciphering Disappointment with Chronic Pain

I think one of the worst parts about chronic pain/illness is that it’s hard to decipher who people are disappointed in. Like are they upset at you or your symptoms?

This gives me anxiety. But I've learned that it doesn't matter because it's not their life. And I agree with the previous comment it is a them problem. It matters how you feel and I get exactly what you mean. If anyone in their life is judging you keep in mind they are looking for things about you to judge that they judge themselves for they lack self love.

It’s hard because people who don’t have chronic illness/pain are so uncomfortable around it. They want to do anything they can to fix it or pretend it doesn’t exist. I think you have to let that be a them problem unless it is someone you care about and feel really hurt by- and then you bring it up directly- yes it’s hard and there are going to be moments of awkward silence but that isn’t a bad thing. Explain how it makes you feel and how it feels like they are disappointed in you for something you can’t even control and how that is so harmful to your mental health

Yes! Definitely. And lately I’ve been noticing if any of my symptoms ease up and I’m improving in some areas suddenly they expect me to do everything like normal again. And when I say I can’t do those things still they seem to get so annoyed. Makes me not even want to share my improvements with them because I’m tired of even those somehow becoming a let down.
