How do I decide if I should be friends with someone? We were going on dates, and, up until right now, I had no idea anything was wrong, we flirted so much until a few minutes ago. He told me he just wants to be friends. At first, he listed my illnesses as being one of the reasons he didn't want to be with me. He also listed small stuff, like the fact I don't drink coffee. When I asked if those were the only reasons, then he said he's not over his ex. The ex thing is completely understandable. However, I'm really upset that me being chronically ill was one of the major reasons for not wanting to be with me. I'm also upset he NEVER communicated any of this before until he dumped me. He felt like this for a few days apparently and waited to tell me. I feel stupid since we were still flirting during that time. But ig that's bc he said he does like me still. I think he's cool, but how do I go about being friends with him? We both still like each other, so that feels weird. But also bc we like each other, it's not like I wanna lose him as a friend too, esp bc ik I'll move on. I'm also just really upset he didn't communicate and that me being ill was one of the reasons. It's a valid reason, but I'm so tired of it and a little hurt tbh.

It sounds like you at the very least you need space from this person

The decision to remain friends with someone after a romantic relationship ends is a personal one and can depend on many factors. In this case, it seems like there are feelings of hurt due to lack of communication and the fact that your chronic illness was cited as a reason for the breakup. It might be helpful to take some time to process these feelings before deciding whether or not to maintain a friendship. If you do decide to remain friends, clear communication about boundaries and expectations could be beneficial.
