Dealing with TMJ: Is There Any Hope?

Anyone else have an impossible case of tmj? I’ve been to over 10 specialists in the past 3 yrs. I’ve tried botox, 2 types of trigger point injections, bite splints, SOO many meds (for anxiety, depression, nervous system anti inflammatory, muscle relaxers, etc), mouth guards, etc. I’m forgetting most of what I’ve tried, but I’ve been dealing with this for years. My case of tmj is not in the joint, but rather the muscle. It can cause vertigo, dizziness, nausea, and balance issues. Which lead me to beleive the pressure builds to my ears on my bad days. Also Bad headaches occur frequently where It hurts to even look at screens. Most appts end up very disappointing, I’m wondering if anyone can relate. It feels hopeless

Hi, it sounds like we’re in similar places with tmj. I’ve been dealing with it for about 5 years and had around 9 different specialists with their own form of treatments. I’ve tried countless nightgaurds and special appliances, another round of braces, physical therapy, dry needling and acupuncture, chiropractor, home remedies, many medications, and a few failed surgerys. I’ve been told so many different things for the cause. The symptoms are so painful and constant. I agree it feels hopeless and no one can really narrow down what’s going on to help. Right now the chiropractor has been my best bet at only making the pain a little more bareable, but that’s on top of many other treatments at home. I’m sorry you have this going on too.

I know it’s been a year since your comment, But I’m hoping the chiropractors are still helping a bit. Hope everything is as well as it can be🫶
