Dealing with the Fear of Addiction

My dad is an alcoholic and many of my cousins are drug addicts. I’m terrified of becoming like them. I know how you feel. I’ve managed to cope but it’s hard. It’s hard telling a surgeon “don’t give me any pain meds when I’m under do not give me a prescription for any” it’s caused me physical pain to have this fear and I wouldn’t wish it on anyone. I have found that I can drink a drink or two a week and feel comfortable with that becuase I’ve seen how much my dad drinks at a time and I’m no where near that. But drugs I can’t go near. I’ve ended relationships with people over it. The best I can say is maybe you’d find comfort in something like Al Anon, or a support group for children of addicts. If you need to talk I’m here

Not too sure but kinda in the same boat but my mother recently has been drinking less the past yr so i can only be proud in a way even tho the reason i moved out at 16 was cuz of her
