When you were first diagnosed/ discovered you were schizophrenic, how did you deal with it?

I only recently was diagnosed and I'm going back and forth. It feels so validating to have a diagnosis that seems to fit. But then I think about the social stigma and I struggle with the idea of how people will see me. When do I tell someone I'm interested in/dating? It's all a bit confusing and overwhelming but I'll learn to deal with it one day just as I did my previous bipolar diagnosis.

To be honest, I was in a very complex situation, I heard voices and felt that I was being chased all the time. I didn't tell anyone about it because I was afraid they would think I was crazy. In the end I told my husband about it and he suggested that we go to the psychiatric hospital which is quite close to us. After hospitalization there and medication balance I returned home. Adapting to the new routine was difficult but my amazing family is so supportive and helpful that it gives me a lot of strength to continue.

i had kind of figured for a while that something was wrong, but getting the diagnosis was scary. i was terrified that i would turn into the crazy off-the-rails people that movies display, but it helped me a lot to remember that putting a label to what i have doesn’t change who i am. learning that i’m schizophrenic isn’t going to make the symptoms any different. honestly, getting the proper treatment has made a huge change in my life and im so grateful i had my condition recognized
