I carry around sensory things in my bag at all times, some things that remind me of my safe place, perfumes, lotions, candies, something small I can touch and fidget around with c: these things help me

My therapist recommends allowing myself to experience the panic attack, acknowledging it but not allowing it to take up anymore time than you are willing to give it. I know, it sounds stupid and not practical in outdoor and social situations so I excuse myself to the restroom and use learned coping strategies. So I use a medical approach and dissolve a Klonopin under my tongue. Meanwhile, I practice CBT, grounding myself and breath work until it passes. It will take some practice. But honestly without benzodiazepines, I would be in and out of hospital constantly. I have been taking Klonopin for 14 years and it’s consistently working for me for panic attacks even after all these years. Do you take any medication for anxiety or panic disorder, or a trauma related disorders? Not advocating for medicine btw just sharing my thoughts.

Some people use apps like Finch that have features to help ground you during a panic attack. Others use the 54321 grounding technique where you name 5 things you see, 4 things you can feel, 3 you can hear, 2 smells, and 1 taste. This helps to put you into your body and not just your head. Some also try to get to a private place if possible and use self-talk to calm themselves down.
